What is a domain name?

Simply put a domain name is an address that people use to find your website on Internet. Just like a house number on your house. Without the number nobody will know where you are or be able to find you. A domain looks like this http://www.hireapcguy.com and this is what is used to find your website.

Domain names are also a form of branding, most people in business use their business name as their domain name to promote who they are as well as it being the gateway to their website. It makes it easy for your customers to remember your website address.

Domain names are also like car registrations, they have to be renewed yearly or bi-yearly. If you let the registration laspe the name will then be placed back on the domain name databases for someone else to use. The only exception to this is the .com.au domain names. The domain name must reflect the registered business name.
